Get a Salon Blowout at Home

It’s hard to compare anything to the glamorous look and feeling of walking out of the salon with a fresh blowout. But few of us have the time or money to go to the salon every time we want to look fabulous. Lucky for you, you can get a salon quality blowout at home. Follow these steps, and with a little practice you’ll be a pro in no time.

Step 1: Equip yourself with a professional hair dryer. To keep damage low and style high, it should come with a concentrator nozzle and no more than 1900 watts. The right hair dryer is going to be expensive, but you’ll be generously compensated with good hair days.

Step 2: Dry your hair as much as possible without heat, minimizing frizz and flatness by wringing it out and patting it with a cotton t-shirt instead of rubbing it or wrapping it with a towel. Without the concentrator nozzle, blow your hair dry, focusing on the roots by combing your fingers through the strands and lifting while moving the dryer from side to side. It’s best not to brush your hair while wet, so continue until it’s at least 80% dry.

Step 3: Divide your hair into four sections: at the crown, each side, and in the back. Twist each section of hair up to your head and secure with a clip.

Step 4: Use a round brush with a mix of natural and nylon bristles, choosing a larger brush for longer hair. Attach the concentrator nozzle to your blow dryer, and unclip the front section of hair. With the brush positioned behind this section of hair and the blow dryer in front, lift the brush upward while following with hot air pointing in the same direction. When you approach the ends of your hair, roll the brush, letting your hair wrap around it. Repeat until dry, then create a curl with your fingers while it’s still warm and clip it to your head. Do the same with the side sections of hair, rolling away from your face.

Step 5: For the back section of hair, you may use a paddle brush while you dry. You don’t have to focus too much time or energy on this section, as the rest of your hair will fall over it. After drying you can still curl it with your fingers and clip if desired.

Step 6: Use the cool setting and blow dry the curls you’ve clipped to your head, to help them set.

Step 7: Remove the clips from each section of hair then gently comb through your hair with your fingers to loosen the curls.

Step 8: Lightly apply a small amount of Silk Drops hair serum for a salon quality finish that’s flyaway free, pushing upward for bounce.

Extra Tip: To preserve your blowout so it still looks good the next day, wear your hair in a loose topknot to sleep and use dry shampoo the next morning to soak up excess oil.
